About Subhas Chandra Bose Island (Ross Island)

Formerly known as Ross Island, this island served as the administrative headquarters for the British in the Andamans. Today, you can explore the ruins of British-era buildings, including a church, a bakery, and a ballroom, all reclaimed by nature. The island is also home to a friendly population of deer and peacocks, adding to its enchanting atmosphere.

Best Timing: Daytime visit to explore the ruins. The evening light and sound show here is also highly recommended.

Entry Fees: Entry Fee: ₹30 per person. Ferry from Aberdeen Jetty: around ₹370 per person (return).

How to Reach: A short 15-minute ferry ride from Aberdeen Jetty in Port Blair.


Background & History

This was the administrative capital for the British from 1858 until an earthquake in 1941. It was renamed in 2018 to honor Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
